Bear was adopted!

Bear's foster mom here, to let everyone know that he found his forever home today!

He was a very happy boy when he left this morning almost as if he knew today was his day.

Congratulations to Bear and his new family!

Dear Santa...

Dear Santa,

For Christmas this year I would like the following:

1. Lots of furry squeaky toys to chew

2. A giant Kong filled with peanut butter and treats

3. A fluffy new bolster bed to sleep on

4. Lots of belly rubs

5. Snuggle time with my foster mom

6. To go on a home visit

And most of all...

7. To find my forever home!

I promise that I have been a good boy all year long.

Happy Turkey Day!

On my first Thanksgiving, I am thankful for:

1. My foster Mom and Dad for being patient with me as I learn new rules and commands.

2. My comfy bed and the other 3 beds I have claimed as my own.

3. The yummy Thanksgiving Dinner I got to eat yesterday.

4. My foster brother and sister for showing me the ropes.

5. Most of all, I am thankful for STUFFIES! I never knew such fun, noisy toys existed.

Looking for a Sponsor!

People save for retirement, but greyhounds aren't so lucky. It's why we created 401(grey). It's a foster dog sponsorship that helps cover the cost of preparing retired racers for adoption.

Here is how it works:

* Click the link above to make a $50 donation
* Pick a foster dog to sponsor
* Your name will appear with the hound's biography/photo on the Available Dogs page of our website
* You will be acknowledged on our adopter Yahoo List, Facebook Page, and in the Newsletter

10 Reasons to Invest in a 401(g)

* You can't foster but want to help adoptable dogs.
* In memory of a pet or person who has died.
* To commemorate a hound's birthday or gotcha day.
* As a gift for someone who has everything.
* To celebrate anniversaries, birthdays, graduations, etc.
* A hound's racing or call name has special meaning for you.
* The foster is a littermate or related to one of your hounds.
* An adoptable hound tugs at your heartstrings, but you are not in a position to adopt.
* It's just the right thing to do... Just ask the hound at your feet! ;)

My first meet and greet!

I rushed home today and begged my foster mom to type this blog about my first meet and greet experience. IT WAS AWESOME! I met so many new greyhounds and people who loved petting me and giving me treats. Let me just say that the rumors about retirement are completely true!
I am so glad I skipped out on the racing life.

Here are a few pictures that my foster mom took..

Here we are on our way to the meet and greet.
I am learning how to "load up" into the car.

I love my foster mom!

This is at the meet and greet.
See all of those people?! They are my new friends!
I also met lots of kids and even had a
family ask about taking me on a "home visit."
My mom says that this is where I go to meet my potential
forever family in their home.

Here we are on the way back home.
Sadie and I are some very tired puppies.

Ahhh, my favorite spot.
Now it is time for a nap...

Maybe I will get to go back tomorrow!

One Week Update

My first week at my foster home has been very interesting. There are so many new rules to follow and commands to learn. I am slowly learning my name, "Bear," how to play with squeaker toys, and how to walk up and down stairs.

I have figured out that I absolutely LOVE this bed no matter how I am laying on it!
If my foster brother or sister is on it I will stare them down until they move.
I love going for walks and I use the bathroom on the leash without any problems. I have discovered that people food is wonderful and I get caught counter surfing on occasion.

I definitely think I made the right decision by heading to retirement early. All in all, I am settling in fine with just a few "puppy-like" hiccups. I should be at my first meet and greet this Saturday at the PetSmart in Clarksville. Come check me out!

Starting to settle in

Hello everyone, Bearclaw here (kind of like the yummy pastry) and I have made it to my foster home in Nashville. I am sort of shy but VERY curious as to what this new life is all about. There are so many new things to see (i.e. fans), do (walk up stairs), and smell (people food). I have been a very good boy so far and am slowly settling in. As you can see, I have actually claimed a spot for myself!

This life may be a lot different, but I can tell that I will definitely like it! I have another Greyhound living with me and a smaller mixed breed to help show me the ropes.

I can't wait to meet my future family so I can settle in for good.

Keep checking back for updates and watch for me at a meet and greet near you.
